It's probably better to post stuff to an unfinished website than to hold off because the site isn't finished
A standard 98x98 bagman in MediumSeaGreen
When I say "bagman", I mean that in the same way that one would say "human". A bagman is a type of guy that inhabits a bag. They have gender, like you or me.
The first person to ever draw a bagman was someone writing in to Dwelling Portably, a zine by Bert and Holly Davis. You can buy compilations of the zine from Microcosm Publishing. Text entries from reader submissions and from the author-editors touch on all things related to living life without a traditional house are coupled with hand-drawn illustrations. There's lots of talk of bicycles, DIYed yurts, dumpster diving, and disdain for the housing system of the United States.
The bagman's first appearance was an illustration in the _______ compilation of Dwelling Portably, as an illustration of a person using a trash bag as a makeshift poncho.
This delighted me, and when trying to come up with a favicon for my website, I drew a bagman.
The first bagman I drew
I decided not to make the trash bag of my bagman black, as the purpose of mine was more of a mascot than a way to demonstrate a cheap way to stay dry. In keeping with one of the running themes of my website, the color of this bag is a named HTML color, MediumSeaGreen, and the background color is FloralWhite.
This first bagman captured the essence of the original, though their proportions were way off due to the square restrictions of a favicon. When scaled down to favicon size, they were completely inscrutable, so I decided to re-create them in pixel art at one half of the resolution.
Reduced resolution bagman
Immediately after finishing their face, this bagman sparked a great deal of joy. The crooked smile, big eyes, chubby cheeks, and big round nose are just delightful. I'm very happy with how they turned out.
